Adult Diversion
Community Justice Programming (Justice on Target) is an alternative to the regular court process that may be available to adults charged with minor offences.
You may be able to participate if:
- The criminal offence you are charged with is considered a minor offence,
- You accept responsibility for the offence
- You are willing to complete a community-based sanction (i.e. volunteer work, charitable donation, restitution, attend a program, etc.) as agreed upon with a Community Justice Worker
Why should you participate?
- It allows you to resolve your court matter quickly and efficiently.
- Upon successful completion, your criminal charge will be “withdrawn” by the courts.
- You will have the opportunity to participate in your community while being accountable for the offence.
Who do I talk to about participating?
- The Crown Attorney makes all referrals to the program. Accused will be notified at their first court appearance.
- Speak to Duty Counsel or your lawyer if you think you may be eligible.
