Don't Let Your Brain Freeze This Summer:

John Howard Society holding camp for Grades 7 and 8s

Jul 13, 2006
BOWMANVILLE -- The local John Howard Society is helping ensure Grade 7 and 8 students don't experience brain freeze this summer.

The JHS Ultimate Teen Camp will offer students a unique combination of academic and life skills workshops, including Effective Note Taking, Informed Decision Making, and Time Management and Organization Skills.

The camp also includes theme days including trips to local beaches for barbecues and sports events, as well as journeys to Toronto theatres, Blue Jays games and tours.

"This camp is aimed at students in Grades 7 and 8 to help ease their transition into high school and prepare them for the social and academic pressures they may face," said Crystal Forde, camp facilitator. "It is a proactive approach by parents, teens and camp staff to address these tough issues so that teens have the knowledge to effectively cope with the reality of a new curriculum and increasing social pressures."

The camp runs for three separate weeks in August at the Clarington Youth Centre, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost for the week of Aug. 1 to 4 is $60, while subsequent weeks will be $80.

Organizers suggest registering as soon as possible.

For more information, call Ms. Forde at 905-623-6814.
