JHS Raises over $700 for United Way
(Feb./09)
On February 12th, the United Way of Oshawa presented JHS with a plaque for "Outstanding Growth Agency" in response to our record breaking fundraising for the 2008/2009 campaign ; an increase of 35% over our 2007 contributions.
Our team of 8 (Paul Dobbs, Christie Bowes, Meagan Orozco, Daniel Dipede, Patsy Budgell, Cassandra Duncan, Christina Colacicco, Kate Stewart) had set a goal of $5,500 and worked very hard to raise awareness and funds for both United Way agencies in Durham (Ajax/Pickering Uxbridge and Oshawa/WhitbyClarington).
There was a wonder if such a height could be hit with the economic challenges going on all around us. But the staff and community as a whole definately came through when it has counted the most.
With a series of events that included a Haunted House in our Firehouse Youth Centre back in October, a Live Auction in December, an Ice Skate in January at the General Motors Centre and a performance of the play "Love Letters" at the Oshawa Library in early February, we're happy to announce that our grand total rasied was $7,640!
